Bawtry Mayflower Primary School is the only school in the market town of Bawtry. It was formed in September 1981 from two separate schools on the same site.
From September 2014 we will have both morning and afternoon nursery sessions for the first time. Children stay with us until Year 6, the year in which they become 11 years old. When the children leave us the vast majority transfer to The Hayfield School.
Most of our children come from Bawtry and Austerfield although an increasing number of children come to us from outside the area.
We work with our pyramid of schools, other schools in Doncaster and the Doncaster Teaching School Alliance on a range of school improvement issues including improving teaching and learning and the moderation of children's work.
At Bawtry Mayflower Primary School, we believe that it is the entitlement of every pupil to have access to a quality learning environment and effective teaching. We believe that good teaching, leading to a love of learning is the key to success at our school. We have a whole staff commitment to sustain high standards of teaching and have developed a common understanding of what constitutes the quality teaching and a quality learning environment we wish to see.
Within school we believe the quality of our teaching and interactions with children is the most significant factor in determining:
- pupils’ attitudes to lifelong learning;
- rate of pupil progress;
- standards of attainment;
- a “can do” culture.
The Friends of Mayflower School (FOMS) are an active and supportive parent group who organise fund raising events throughout the year. New parents are welcomed and encouraged either to join the committee or help out with events. Please see the FOMS page for further information.
